Updates on my book with Scoble
Robert and I have been heads down with the book and considering the possibilities of life after publication. There’s a lot going on and I wanted to share some of the highlights with you.
We have two major additions to our team. Gary Vaynerchuk, the digital marketing maestro, author and head of VaynerMedia.has agreed to write our Foreword and Josh Bernoff, a writer’s writer and author of the upcoming Writing Without Bullshit has agreed to be our. I think we have assembled an all-star team and I hope the result is a bunch of five-star review.
We have a new title: The Fourth Transformation: Why AR and AI will Change Almost Everything. Josh gave us the idea for the main title in our very first meeting with him as editor. Nice start, we thought. The concept is Robert’s. As we tell it in our new Introduction, which we will post here tomorrow, In the beginning there were mainframes, owned by large organizations, controlled by computer scientists and engineers who communicated with the machines with punch cards.
This first transformation were character based interfaces such as MS DOS that allowed knowledge workers and desktop computing, changing the world. The third was the Mac and GUI interface that enabled almost anyone to use a computer. Next came the iPhone and a touch interface that allowed people to use digital devices anywhere.
That’s our starting point. Like it? Let me know why or why not.
Robert and I have also become convinced that the next phase of our respective careers will be immersed in these immersive technologies, perhaps going beyond the scope of the book into robotics and autonomous cars. Of course, we will be speaking, starting in December in Australia, with Telstra as our host. If you are interested in one or both of us speaking at you event or working on corporate projects, please email me.
We are exploring other possibilities as well. We are working with the VRARA, Nathan Pettyjohn’s fast-growing international membership organization of AR and VR professionals, and are thinking about ways to build an online community as well. We are also researching Online Certified Learning Programs where Robert and I would teach course on how to use VR/AR in the enterprise.
We believe that we are on the dawn of a new era, one that will change life and work as much–if not more–than any of the previous transformations. We are eager to complete a book that tells the story to business decision makers and opens the door to new possibilities in how we work and present our findings.
